is it safe to leave your tent unprotected when not sleeping?

thats difficult to say.
i never locked my tent. and never something was stolen (except for chairs if you dont put them in your tent while leaving the campsite oder sleeping)
on the other hand there are some reports of people who got stolen a lot of their baggage.
and it doesnt matter if the tent was locked or not, if its locket, a knife does the trick too open the tent to. maybe its even better not to lock the tent, since a lock could attract thieves even more.
