Oathbreaker sind eine Belgische Blackmetal/Hardcore Band, die sich 2008 in Ghent gegründet hat. Die Band gehört zum Musikerkollektiv rund um die Band AmenRa und mit Lennart Bossu wirkt auch ein Mitglied von AmenRa bei Oathbreaker mit.
Erschienen sind bisher zwei (sehr hörenswerte) Alben (Maelstrøm und Eros|Anteros). Laut ihrer Instagram Seite sind sie gerade seit Anfang des Monats wieder im Studio

Erste Songs: Oathbreaker, '10:56 / Second Son of R.'

Opener "10:56" begins with a haunting guitar riff and Caro Tanghe's beautifully sung vocal before abruptly soaring to new heights with "Second Son of R". Its blasts of melody mutate into a blackened buzz while waves of tempo changes pound down with intense emotional weight. "Being Able To Feel Nothing" then rolls in like a storm. Chaotically breaking apart to reveal the eye before churning once again. "Stay Here / Accroche-Moi" is an otherworldly reverb drenched acoustic number that leads to "Needles In Your Skin". A deeply personal song that showcases the artistic strength vulnerability brings. It's hard to believe that this is just the half way point of this post everything masterwork. "Immortals" then unfurls as a goose bump inducing monster. This leads to the ambitious "I'm Sorry, This Is", "Where I Live", and "Where I Leave?; A musical triptych that needs to be heard to be believed. All of it comes to an end with mesmerizing closer "Begeerte". Ethereally materializing before vanishing into the beautiful unknown.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that our drummer Ivo Debrabandere is leaving the band.
As Ivo states himself: "Because of both personal and health related reasons, I have decided to leave Oathbreaker. There is no animosity whatsoever. I want the band to reach its full potential and I feel this is the right decision for all involved, as difficult as it may be. I have nothing but love for both the band and its members, who I hold very dear."
His decision has not been an easy one, because for the past eight years, Ivo has not only been a great drummer and band member to us, but also someone who lifted Oathbreaker to a higher level and above all, a friend, who we dearly love and respect. We wish him all the best with his band Partisan and any other future endeavors.
We welcome Wim Coppers to the band as our new drummer. Wim has been a close friend of ours since Oathbreaker toured with his old band Rise And Fall years ago, and he also plays with Gilles in Wiegedood. We're currently on tour with this line-up and you can catch us somewhere in the US or Europe in the coming months.

Im Dezember geht die Band übrigens auf Tour. Danach ist eine Pause auf unbestimmte Zeit angesagt, die auch das komplette Ende der Band sein kann.
Sängerin Caro Tanghe hat im Interview mit dem Metal Hammer UK einige Gründe anklingen lassen:
- Das Tourleben ist nach der Trennung von ihr und Gilles Demolder nicht mehr ganz so einfach.
- Momentan denkt man nicht darüber nach ein neues Album zu schreiben und wolle auch nichts erzwingen. Es müsste dann einfach alles passen.
- 4 von 5 Bandmitgliedern sind momentan schon mit anderen Bands beschäftigt, die ebenfalls ziemlich gut laufen. Gerade Lennart Bossu dürfte mit Amenra nächstes Jahr ziemlich beschäftigt sein. Außerdem arbeitet Caro Tanghe an einem neuen Projekt, welches wohl auch in Verbindung mit ihrem Aufenthalt in den USA steht.
