@topic: so, die grammys laufen... im Radio haben sie grad erzählt, dass Mariah Carey mindestens 3 Grammys gewinnen wird... das sei schon vor der Verleihung verkündet worden, bzw. durchgesickert... u.a. für Best R'n'B Song oder so mein ich wenn ich mich nicht verhört hab... na klasse...

Die Popdiva setzte sich am Mittwoch als beste R&B-Interpretin durch und sicherte sich mit «We Belong Together» die Trophäe für den besten R&B-Song und mit «The Emancipation of Mimi» auch den Preis für das beste aktuelle R&B-Album. Insgesamt war sie in acht Kategorien nominiert, musste sich aber unter anderem beim Song des Jahres geschlagen geben.

Als beste Popsänger wurden Kelly Clarkson und Stevie Wonder gekürt. Die Newcomerin Clarkson setzte sich mit «Since U Been Gone» durch, Wonder mit «From the Bottom of My Heart». Als bester Rocksänger wurde Bruce Springsteen für «Devils & Dust» ausgezeichnet, als bester Rapper Kanye West für «Gold Digger». West gewann weiter die Trophäen für das beste Rap-Album (»Late Registration») und für den besten Rap-Song («Diamonds From Sierra Leone»).

In einem emotionalen improvisierten Auftritt zu Beginn der Show widmeten Stevie Wonder und Alicia Keys den Klassiker «Higher Ground» der verstorbenen Witwe Bürgerrechtlers Martin Luther King, Coretta Scott King. Deutsche Gewinner gab es in der Kategorie Klassischer Gesang und in der Orchester-Sparte: Hier überzeugten Thomas Quasthoff sowie Symphonieorchester und Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks mit Dmitri Schostakowitschs Symphonie No. 13.

Was SLAYER angeht, so sind die Reaktionen auf den Grammygewinn sehr unterschiedlich ausgefallen. Während sich Tom Araya und Jeff Hannemann über die Auszeichnung freuen, lässt Kerry King die Trophäe gelinde gesagt "kalt". Sein Statement dazu: "Unsere Fans kümmert es einen Dreck, und das ist das Einzige, was für mich zählt. [...] Es macht uns nicht unbedingt zu besseren Menschen."
